A fab night out in the Samba Quarter

sunny 30 °C

It's a sunny Saturday morning and my head is slightly foggy after a 3am in Lapa.
Lapa is full of samba bars and everyone sings and dances to samba without having a care in the world.
The streets are full of street vendors selling capirinha cocktails from as little as £1 and the atmosphere was fantastic.
We went to boteka de jugo where an 80 year old granny was the star in the audience - she danced away beside the band.
See pics of Lapa attached

Having so much fun...havent had time to blog

sunny 29 °C

Its Friday evening now (Good friday) and we've been in Rio since Sunday evening.
We've packed a fair bit in already - did a favela tour (which was really interesting), visited the Botanic Gardens, went up to the Christ the Redeemer statue and spent lots of time strolling along Copacabana beach and lying in the sun on Ipanema beach.
With it being Easter today the beaches are much busier and the roads alongside the beaches have been closed to traffic which means there's thousands of people walking, cycling, skateboarding along the road enjoying the Easter holiday atmosphere.
We're loving our time here.
We've attached some pics of Rio.

After the heavy rain last night at the footie,a nd before the heavy rain due on Tuesday, today was a lovely day and Mish got some time off this afternoon so we went for a 3 hr hike in the Sierra Nevada mountains nearby. It was a fab walk and we attach a few pics.

Wetter than Windsor Park on a wet November night

rain 16 °C

Just back from the pub after seeing live Granada draw with Levante in La Liga.
It was pouring with rain and our stand didn't have a roof so it got pretty wet. It was a great atmosphere nonetheless.
Earlier today we went for Sunday lunch with Linda, Manolo and Miguel to a rustic restaurant in a small village on the edge of the mountains and had paella, chorizo, blood sausage and goat. It was all very nice.
We've added a few photos of the footie on as well as some of Montefrio which we visited on Saturday afternoon.

Less than a week left in Granada

sunny 17 °C

The last 2 weeks have flown by and next saturday we'll be heading to Malaga and then on to Madrid.
The last couple of days we did a fair bit of sightseeing. We went for a short hike in Monachil which is a small village a few miles from Granada, and then yesterday we went to the Alpujarras and then on to Almunecar on the coast.
Last night I played indoor footie with my new Spanish mates and then quite a lot of beer and tapas in local bars, hence I'm a bit 'through myself' today.
Attached are a few pics from the last few days - talk soon!
